Part of:  The Super-Friends (Reboot) by Vederick
------------------------------------------
"El Dorado's powers were not well-defined and were highly ambiguous."
- From El Dorado's wiki page

But seriously they really were a a bit...let's say 'eclectic'; he could (possibly) fly, had a degree of super-strength/invulnerability , could make holograms, shoot lasers out of his eyes, turn invisible and even teleport (which is the one they ended up going with for his Young Justice pseudo-reboot). On top of all that he calls himself "El Dorado" (after the legendary City of Gold) which...just doesn't make any sense. Oh, and his outfit is a bit...MUCH (though I do respect the cape  ).

So the biggest challenge for me was deciding on a power-set that matched up better with his name without abandoning ALL his old powers. I like what I came up with (even if it's admittedly not wholly original, but then neither is teleporting  ): a second skin.
It's actually a separate organism that exists symbiotically with his body as it's host (like the bacteria that help you digest and other neat human things). It secretes from his pores [C] and can coat his entire body and clothing, turning rigid upon sudden impacts and is virtually indestructible when it does so [A]. It can also bend light to become a sort of active camouflage [B].

Once I started thinking of it as a living thing a broader range of possibilities opened up, both practical as well as humorous =D For one thing it derives nutrients from his body. Not just was he eats but also what he wastes like hair (keeping it from growing past whatever he feels is comfortable) and shed skin, excess nail growth, plaque and sweat and even - ahem... other things... Basically he's never had to take a bath, brush his teeth or even groom himself since his powers manifested (something he thinks is brag-worthy but everyone else? Not so much. ) It can even cover his mouth and nostrils and recycle his breath to become a makeshift diving/space suit (though it can't keep it up for too long, especially doing the latter). Finally (that is as far as I've come up with so far) he can also temporarily coat other people and objects with it (like a Midas touch) protecting allies from danger or petrifying baddies into golden statues (don't worry; it leaves air holes them and the bacteria will die before long if it's not still connected to his body somehow).

Final Notes:
Personality: As you might be able to tell from the drawings I see Ed (place-holding name) as a very arrogant teen (at least when the Friends first come across him) due in part to being literally gilded as well as invincible (against the street-level threats he's so far dealt with). I'm thinking after his first big humbling his embarrassment is what triggers his first "cloaking", which he'll then use in a more patient, tactical way to help the Friends and redeem himself, earning "Honorary" status.

Costume : I'll probably re-visit this one later - not that I don't like it but it could change as he starts to become more heroic. His color scheme ended up being very reminiscent of 'Teen Titans' Robin so I gave him a domino mask for fun and I kinda liked it ;) As a extra differentiation I left his eyes visible (they get 'white' when they're gilded). Speaking of eyes I purposely gave them a 'cartoony diamond' shape.

Other: You can't really tell since they're all separate like this but he's also on the short side, meant to contrast the particularly tall Knockout (the super-strength Friend) who's also Latino and whom he'll hit on (futilely) when they first meet.... yeah, he's kinda the WORST in the beginning but he gets better over time. :)

Great Ideas! Not only does his name make more sense, but he has better powers than he did in the cartoon.
